The 领导 Department at Gwynedd Mercy offers a leadership curriculum called Lead4Change. Lead4Change presents an excellent opportunity for students to develop a project addressing an issue they wish to resolve. This experience offers valuable insights into how students can engage with real-world challenges across the nation. Participants in Lead4Change not only get to create and lead a project aligned with their passions but also contribute to sparking positive change in our community. 去年, three groups were awarded a $1,000 grant each to support their initiatives and expand their impact this year.

Her goal is to educate the school community on the importance of supporting English as a second language. Lucy plans to utilize her grant to support ARISE Adelante, 阿拉莫的一个组织, 德州, with which she collaborated during a summer service trip. Eager to make a lasting impact, Lucy is enthusiastic about the launch of her project during Mission Week in the Spring Semester.

凯瑟琳·英贝西,25岁, 奥利维亚·卡洛24, and Katie Lynch ’25 worked together on their Lead4Change initiative named “Read4Change.” Focused on diminishing stigmas surrounding childhood illnesses, the project aimed to provide education and raise awareness on this important issue. This endeavor empowered the group to create a children's book that emphasizes the significance of understanding childhood illnesses, to spread awareness among young readers. The book not only educates other children but also seeks to make those impacted by illness feel acknowledged and valued. The team aspires to work with children in hospitals and those affected by illness, especially in the context of cancer.

Sophia Desantis ’24 and Mia Hudak ’24 began working on their Lead4Change project titled “Kickstart My Heart.” The “Kickstart My Heart” project offers our student body and community the opportunity to undergo EKG screenings and enhance their understanding of personal heart health. In response to recent community tragedies and the heightened risk of sudden cardiac arrest in young women, introducing EKGs at Gwynedd Mercy Academy is a great first step toward ensuring the safety of our community.

Sophia and Mia hope that this project will prompt community members to recognize the significance of undergoing heart tests themselves and motivate them to involve their loved ones in the effort against sudden cardiac arrest. 为了实现这一目标, Simon’s Heart Foundation has been invited to Gwynedd Mercy Academy High School for an all-day EKG screening event on Saturday, 4月20日, 2024.
